Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy takes a whole-person approach to healing where the mind, body and spirit are incorporated. Craniosacral therapy is a gentle touch therapy. This involves listening with hands to the body’s subtle rhythms and patterns of inertia. By listening to the body’s story and identifying places where tissues are held, this therapy can facilitate the body’s own self-healing capacities.
Craniosacral therapy can help your nervous system to re-set itself, so that you move out of a sympathetic state (fight/flight mode) and into a parasympathetic state, which is the body’s natural state of repair, allowing for healing to happen. This can help in all aspects of your life to feel more settled and present in your body.
Who can benefit from Craniosacral therapy?
People of any age can benefit. The gentleness and non-invasive nature of Biodynamic Craniosacral therapy makes it suitable for all including infants, pre/post natal women and those recovering from surgeries. This therapy can benefit a wide range of conditions such as neck/back/hip pain, stress, headaches, depression, insomnia and digestive problems to name a few. Most people come out of a session very relaxed and rejuvenated.
- Pregnant moms (and their babies love it too!)
- Babies and children
- Anyone with stress or recovering from trauma
What happens in a Biodynamic Craniosacral therapy session?
Sessions take place at my office or in your home. We begin the session getting some relevant history, talking about current concerns and your intention for the session.
The session lasts about an hour and takes place on a massage table fully clothed. The touch is very light and usually involves contact to the cranium (head) and sacrum (triangular bone at the bottom of the spine), and the feet.
It’s really important that an environment of safety is created, so your nervous system can fully relax. I will check in with you periodically in the session to see what you are noticing in your body. Some sessions there is talking, and other sessions are more quiet, it depends on what shows up and what the needs are in the moment.
During the session you may notice
- Deep relaxation
- A meditative state
- You may fall asleep
- You may notice subtle movements in your body
- You may notice a widening, expansive feeling, notice warmth and softening
